Laboratories and Workshop<br />
The Laboratories are maintained in perfect order with all modern equipment, at par with those of any<br />
premier Institution of the country. They provide all experimental setups conforming to the WBUT Syllabus<br />
and have facilities for developing innovative measurements. Students can perform simulation experiments<br />
as well. The Institute has a spacious workshop that maintains the AICTE norms providing adequate facilities<br />
to students. They can also execute academic and research projects, under the guidance of the faculty<br />
members. As and when required, the Institute extends to students external facilities for executing their<br />
projects through collaborative understanding of the Institute with R&D laboratories and industries in the<br />
country.<br />
Some of the equipments/apparatuses, instruments used by our students are as follows.<br />
Digital storage oscilloscope (GW Instek/Agilent Technologies), DDS function generator (GW Instek), arbitrary<br />
function generator (Agilent Technologies), AM-FM mono function generator (GW Instek), spectrum analyzer<br />
(GW Instek); single output DC power supply (Agilent Technologies), Multiple Output DC Power Supply<br />
(Scientific); microwave bench with klystron power supply (Scientific Microwave Technology); digital<br />
multimeter (Agilent Technologies), USB power sensor (Agilent Technologies); EM wave and propagation lab<br />
setup (HAMEG), microwave bench (SICO), horn bench (AMITEC), S-band filter measurement setup (SICO),<br />
RF antenna measurement setup (AMITEC), EMI/EMC setup; coax transmission line setup, fibre-optic<br />
(FALCON), satellite communication, GSM and GPS systems (AMITEC); universal FPGA/CPLD target board,<br />
tanner tools, DSP kit, code composer studio, etc.; data acquisition system, bridge circuits; trainers: PLC<br />
with computer interfacing, PID controllers for temperature, flow and level; measurement setups for viscosity,<br />
moisture, temperature, pressure; venturimeter for flow measurement; sensor and transducer based<br />
measurement setups for displacement (LVDT, capacitive), torque (strain gauge), temperature (AD-590 IC<br />
sensor), speed (proximity sensor), light intensity (LDR), etc; remote control and telemetry measurement<br />
setups for voltage, current, frequency, etc; 8085 microprocessor, 8086 microprocessor and 8051<br />
microcontroller kits; interfaces: stepper motor control, DAC, 8 bit ADC, relay output (with I/O module),<br />
temperature, keyboard; 4 digit, 7 segment display, 8255 study card, 8 bit catch, universal programmer,<br />
EPROM eraser; and so on (available in ECE Department/AEIE Department/Sir J. C. Bose Creativity Centre).<br />
DC motors (series and shunt), DC generators (single-phase and three-phase), AC motors, alternators,<br />
transformers (single-phase and three-phase); cut section models of synchronous machine, induction machine<br />
(single-phase and three-phase), DC machine; cut section model of single phase fan; facilities for fabricating<br />
air-core and iron-core inductors, single phase transformers and wire wound resistors; linear system<br />
simulators; controllers: PID, DC-motor-position, AC-motor-position, active-power and reactive-power;<br />
earth tester, DC network analyzer, transmission line parameters analyzer, HV testing set ups; relays: ontime<br />
decay, off-time delay, earth-fault, over-current, under-voltage, numerical like Micom, etc.; current<br />
transformers and potential transformers; Thyristors and DIACS; chopper, rectifier and inverter circuits;<br />
dynamic and regenerative brakers of AC/DC motors, V/f controllers of three-phase induction motors,<br />
Thyristor-controlled and chopper-fed DC drives, AC single-phase motor with arrangement of speed control<br />
using TRIAC, GE-Fanuc PLC for both AC and DC drives; and so on (available in EE Department that essentially<br />
adheres to using the 110-V power supply as per Internation Standard).<br />
Cut models of Lancashire, Wilcox, Cochran, Vertical tubular and locomotive boilers; cut models of 4-S diesel,<br />
4-S petrol and 2-S petrol engines; model of 4-S diesel engine; bomb calorimeter and accessories; flashpoint<br />
apparatus; single cylinder diesel engine test rig (with rope brake dynamometer), single cylinder 4-S<br />
