Admission Eligibility in B. Tech Program<br />

(Academic Session: 2013-2014)<br />

General Category<br />

w The admission to the B. Tech degree course is conducted through online counselling organised by the<br />

West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board (WBJEEB)<br />

w Those who have passed 10+2 Examination securing at least 45% marks in PCM and 30% marks in English<br />

and who are successfully ranked in WBJEE or AIEEE, are eligible to appear in the e-counselling conducted<br />

by WBJEEB.<br />

w In all courses, 90% of the seats of the approved intake shall be admitted through e-counselling, organized<br />

by West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board (WBJEEB), Govt. of West Bengal. Out of 90% seats,<br />

80% seats shall be allotted to the qualifiers’ of the WBJEE and 10% of the seats shall be allotted to the<br />

AIEEE qualifiers. The AIEEE vacant seats, if any, will be transferred to general category which shall be<br />

filled up by WBJEE qualifiers’. Balance 10% seat is reserved under management quota for admission of<br />

the students qualified in WBJEE or AIEEE. The admission under management quota is a direct process<br />

without appearing in e-counselling.<br />

w Over and above, as per the AICTE norms, 5% approved intake seats is reserved for economically backward<br />

students under Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme (TFW). The allotment of seats against TFW scheme is solely<br />

monitored by WBJEEB through e-counselling.<br />

w The vacant seats, if any, shall finally be filled up through the Direct Admission process by the Institute.<br />

Those who have passed 10+2 Examination securing at least 45% marks in PCM or those with B. Sc (Pure<br />

Science) degree are eligible to apply for such admission against vacant seats.<br />

Lateral Category<br />

w In the Lateral Entry scheme, eligible Diploma holders in Engineering and Technical disciplines or B.Sc<br />

degree holders can take admission in the second year level of B. Tech degree course. The qualifiers’ of<br />

JELAT examination are eligible to take lateral admission through online counselling/manual counselling<br />

which is directly to be conducted by West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board (WBJEEB). The<br />

approved intake under the Lateral Entry scheme is 20% of each sanctioned programme intake. Diploma<br />

holders in Engineering and Technical disciplines without JELAT examination are also eligible to take<br />

lateral admission through ‘Direct Admission’ process on the vacant seats subject to approval given by<br />

the Directorate of Technical Education, Govt. of West Bengal.<br />

University Registration<br />

It is mandatory for every student to register his/her admission in West Bengal University of Technology<br />

(WBUT) through the Institute. After admission, the Institute takes all initiative for the aforesaid registration.<br />

The student has to furnish all relevant documents, including migration certificate, if applicable, and pay the<br />

necessary fees. The admission is treated to be valid once the registration certificate is issued by WBUT in<br />

favour of the student.<br />

Scholarship<br />

Economically backward students having excellent academic record in the semester examination(s) are<br />

considered for scholarship to the extent of exemption in tuition fee up to 75%. However, such grant is solely<br />

decided by the authority by evaluating students’ overall record, financial status, etc.<br />
