Further, our students have an access to the design, experiment and simulation facilities available in the National laboratory: CSIR-CEERI, Pilani under an MoU. Vocational Training The Vocational Training Program (VT) is compulsory for all B. Tech students as per WBUT curriculum. The duration of VT is at least one and half months and is to be completed during the period between the end of the third year, sixth semester and the beginning of the fourth year, seventh semester, either in a single phase or in two phases. The CRA Division of the Institute is devoted to arranging VT for all students. However, on case basis, the Institute also allows a student to take up self-arranged VT. The expenditure towards VT, including that charged by the host organization, shall have to be borne by the concerned student under VT. 44 | Prospectus 2013 Prospectus 2013 | 45
National Service Scheme (NSS) Activities National Service Scheme (NSS) at Sir J. C. Bose School of Engineering has been a source of immense joy, pleasure, and satisfaction for the students as well as the Institute. Such a service for a noble cause instils in the mind of students a sense of dedication, involvement, and awareness towards the Nation. The activity comes within the purview of the extra-curricular activities prescribed by WBUT as well. Thus, NSS has become part and parcel of the students’ activity record at the Institute. The NSS activities include creating and developing NSS Parks within the college campus, visiting Children’s Homes and playing with them and extending support to the needy; extending company, entertainment and necessary help to the residents at Old Age Homes; taking up the task of educating slum children; extending help to needy physically handicapped, for instance, by providing artificial legs; and so on. Departments and Centres Sir J.C. Bose School of Engineering has the following six departments: w Civil Engineering (CE) w Mechanical Engineering (ME) w Electrical Engineering (EE) w Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) w Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) w Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering (AEIE) While each of the above six departments carries out B. Tech programme of WBUT, two of them carry out M. Tech programme of WBUT as well. Both these programmes are approved by AICTE. Further, besides Entrepreneurship Development Programme Cell described earlier (in Part A), there are four centres for carrying out advanced level academic and research activities as follows: w Sir J.
