Swami Vivekananda Auditorium
The Institute is proud to have recently built its acoustically designed Auditorium dedicated to Swami
Vivekananda coinciding with his 150th Birth Anniversary. The Swami Vivekananda Auditorium is located
on the third floor of the Institute Main Building with an audience capacity of 300. It has the state-of-theart
features (such as false ceiling with glass-wool pack, followed by Gyp. Board fixing; acoustical wall
panelling with glass wool isolation with Gyp. Board cover; Yamaha Public Address System with all
accessories; and Sony O.H. Projector with 2000 ANSI Lumens XGA resolution). The Auditorium has been
of great use to us in hosting national and International conferences, orientation sessions of recruiters,
inter-Institutional debates and scientific meets as well as social and cultural events at SKFGI.
Corporate Relation Affairs Division
encompassing Training and Placement
The Institute has a full-fledged wing, namely, Corporate Relation Affairs (CRA) Division under the guidance
of the Chairman, Education Division of SKFGI. The distinct Vision of the CRA Division is, sustained excellence
in Training, Placement and Career Orientation. The Division operating through its two offices in two verticals,
one at the Institute Campus and another at Kolkata garners support from renowned Industry and Corporate
Houses. The Division arranges campus interviews and grooms them through preparatory classes, group
discussions, mock interviews, etc. It also arranges the visits of H. R. personnel from the Corporate Sectors
to SKFGI, who through their lectures and seminars motivate students and develop awareness in them. The
Division also arranges the Summer Internship for students. The activities of the CRA Division are carried
out in liaison with the concerned Heads of Departments.
The Pre-placement Grooming Cell of the CRA Division is aimed at bridging the gap between the class-room
teaching and the requirements at the future workplace of students after they pass out from the Institute.
The Cell takes care in inculcating into the students a mix of academic, technical and behavioural skills,
attitudes, soft skill, team compatibility and other professional competencies so that they become more
acceptable and deliverable to the potential employers. The Cell extremely values what Hewlett-Packard
points out: “If teaching equipment and curriculum become more obsolescent, then our job in industry
becomes much harder and our country falls behind in the technology race and in world market.” The
Division is well aware of its Vision, Aim and Objective, Short-Term Plan and Long-Term Plan. It also takes
care of Vocational Training, and Summer Internship Programme of students and make them aware of Present
Job Requirement Scenario, Achievement /Placement Status of our students, and finally keeps record of and
reacts to Students’ Feedback. The Division has done a commendable job in the placement of students. For
instance, thanks to the all-out effort of the Division, around 91% of the final B. Tech students of the Institute
have already been selected for jobs through campus interviews up to the end of May 2013.
Industry-Academia Partnership Initiative
Richard Atkinson, President of the University of California, USA has rightly said, “This is the strategic time
to start investigating in Institute-Industry partnerships that put the products of Institute research directly
to work in the economy (e.g. Silicon Valley).” Institute-Academia-Partnership is a natural process. An
Institute is a knowledge-generating machine that generates Students and Research Results. On the other
hand, an Industry requires the Students and Research Results as the input and generates resources, namely,
Funds and Intellectual Stimulation. Therefore, the two together can form an ideal
partnership. It is a symbiotic process. The bonding of SKFGI with CSIR-CEERI, IBM
and NB Institute for Rural Technology and the establishment of the R&D centres at SKFGI
such as Sir J. C. Bose Creativity Centre and Centre for Renewable and Non-Conventional
Energy Studies and Research are our advancing steps toward the goal of becoming one
of the leading groups of academic Institutions in the country. Right from the beginning
of the Institute, we are striving for Industry-Academia bonding; the existence of IBM
Systems Centre of Excellence and the proposed MoU with Sterlite Technologies in the
Campus are the typical testimonies to this effort. (See the section to follow on Sir J. C.
Bose School of Engineering for further details). We are also looking forward to the
successful implementation of various industry-campus connect programmes.
