Activities of Sir J. C. Bose Creativity Centre
During the last academic year the activities of Sir J. C. Bose Creativity Centre have been evidenced by the
presentation of research papers at various national and international conferences as well as the publication
of research papers in peer-reviewed journals. (However, we have listed here only the papers published/accepted
for publication in journals in the previous session). We are also carrying out, at the premises of this Centre,
some of the activities of the sister centres of SKFGI, namely, Centre for Renewable and Non-Conventional
Energy Studies and Research and Finite-Element Analysis and Design Centre, until the infrastructure of
the latter is fully established.
The Centre is led by the great visionary, scientist and teacher (who received the VEDA Lifetime Achievement
Award this year): Professor (Dr.) B. N. Biswas, the Chairman, Education Division of SKFGI. Dr. S. N. Joshi
of CSIR-CEERI inaugurated the Centre. The facilities of the Centre are maintained by the faculty members
of the Institute including Mr. Subhradeep Pal. The Centre coordinates the Conference series that our Institute
hosts: “Engineering Education in the New Century” (E2NC) every year at our Institute. The final-year B.
Tech students: Mr. Ravi Raj and Mr. Avishek Das brilliantly conceived and conducted, under the supervision
of their teachers Mr. Subhradeep Pal and Mrs. Sukanya Dutta, Head, AEIE Department, and with support
from their student counterparts, the first ever technology exhibition at the Institute: TechCraze-2013 as a
pre-conference event of E2NC-2013. Mrs. Srima Nandi, Head, HU Department, with a strong support from
her teacher counterparts Mrs. Jhulan Dasgupta and Mrs. Sukanya Dutta and our dedicated student volunteers,
hosted the inaugural programmes of E2NC-2013 and TechCraze-2013 that earned the praise for our Institute
of acclaimed scientists and academicians from all over the country.
Our Centre also arranged its support to one of the teachers of a neighbouring institution in the city: Mr.
Somnath Chatterjee, by arranging for him the guidance of Professor (Dr.) Biswas, which has enabled him
to submit his Ph. D thesis to WBUT this year; his work has been authenticated by a large number of research
papers published in the journals. There are many such scientists and teachers benefiting from the guidance
provided at the Centre by Professor (Dr.) Biswas are on the verge of submitting their theses for the award
of the Ph. D degree of various other universities.
It is heartening to mention that as many as 13 B. Tech students evidenced their original research in peerreviewed
journals this year. The students who achieved this feat are: S. Guha Mallick, Koyel Datta, Raya
Ghosh, Monalisa Sarkar, Roshmy Sanyal, Moumita Ghosh, Mangolika Mondal, Aritra Mondal, Nayan
Banerjee, Jit Chakraborty, Kausik Das, Subir Kumar Datta and Pritam De. We are fortunate to have in
our faculty member: Mr. Aritra Acharyya to take a major share in supervising the publication of their
research. Mr. Subhradeep Pal also motivated his students under the overall supervision of Professor (Dr.)
Biswas to publish papers. Professor (Dr.) Abhijit Lahiri also contributed to this list. The B. Tech students
co-authoring papers in peer-reviewed journals with their mentors have been highlighted by underlining
their names in bold face in the following list. (We have excluded the conference papers and mentioned
only the journal papers published in the session 2012-2013).
