lose to five million people visit the Grand Canyon
each year, and most just drive along the South Rim
to stop at the village and the vantage points along
Desert View Drive. If you don’t have much time or you are
traveling with small children, this may be your only option
but do be sure and take that opportunity if you get the
chance. Even a few minutes at the edge of this magnificent
landmark is worth the trip.
That said, the Grand Canyon is simply too enormous to
be truly appreciated in a single experience. To see the real
Grand Canyon, spend a little more time and get multiple
perspectives either from above or from within.

rim. Grand Canyon Village, where all of the hotels, restaurants,
and gift shops are, overlooks its southern edge. The
views from some of the hotel rooms are spectacular, and
you can happily spend a day doing short hikes and taking
photos from around this area.
Gazing out over the canyon’s intricately carved expanse,
it’s easy to imagine hands from heaven hard at work on
such a wonder. With invisible hands in mind, it’s a short
step to the question “I wonder what this view would be like
from up there?”
From the high above, the canyon finally takes shape,
the path of the river becomes clear, and distinct patterns
emerge in the colored rock. You can fly down into areas
that would be otherwise unreachable, and, in a single trip,
explore further than you could in a month on the ground.
