for their school, community<br />

make society more equal<br />
Resources<br />
Sheets <strong>of</strong> flip chart paper –<br />
one sheet for each group<br />
<strong>of</strong> 4-5 students<br />
Activity<br />
Vision statements<br />
Divide the students into groups <strong>of</strong> 4-5. Give each group a sheet<br />
<strong>of</strong> flip chart paper <strong>and</strong> some markers. Explain that the groups<br />
are going to imagine a future where equality is a reality <strong>and</strong> to<br />
write a Vision Statement <strong>of</strong> what that would look like in their<br />
school, their community, society <strong>and</strong> the world.<br />
Ask the whole class to brainstorm all the words they associate<br />
with equality <strong>and</strong> promoting equality. Write these up on the<br />
board. Then assign groups to each <strong>of</strong> the following areas:<br />
school, community, society, the world. Ask the groups to<br />
choose words from the list generated by the class <strong>and</strong> to use<br />
them to write their Vision Statement.<br />
Finally ask each group to present its Vision Statement to the<br />
rest <strong>of</strong> the class <strong>and</strong> display the statements in the classroom.<br />
