I’m Stephen <strong>and</strong> am 32. I live<br />
with Peter, my partner, <strong>and</strong> am a<br />
primary teacher in the city. There<br />
is a job going in the school in the<br />
small village I come from, but I<br />
know there is no point applying for<br />
it because I am gay.<br />
I’m Kathleen, an 82 year old widow.<br />
I worked all my life <strong>and</strong> am now<br />
retired. I receive a state pension.<br />
My children <strong>and</strong> gr<strong>and</strong>children live<br />
abroad <strong>and</strong> I live alone.<br />

asylum seekers. We now have refugee<br />
status. I am a highly qualified social<br />
worker, but cannot find work.<br />
I’m Alesky. I’m 45 <strong>and</strong> originally from<br />
the Ukraine. I have lived here for 10<br />
years with my wife <strong>and</strong> two children<br />
<strong>and</strong> we are now citizens <strong>and</strong> have good<br />
jobs. Recently other kids in school have<br />
started calling our children names <strong>and</strong><br />
saying we should go home.<br />
I’m Mary, a 40 year old Traveller<br />
woman. I live with my family in a<br />
halting site. I am a stay-at-home<br />
mother to my five children. I have<br />
had some bad experiences in being<br />
asked to leave shops <strong>and</strong> feel<br />
nervous going into town.<br />
I’m David, a 50 year old accountant.<br />
I have a wife <strong>and</strong> three children. My<br />
wife is a dentist <strong>and</strong> our two older<br />
children are in university. We have a<br />
holiday home in Spain.<br />
I’m Paul. I am 40, married with three<br />
children <strong>and</strong> am an ex-prisoner. I was<br />
a transport manager, but now find it<br />
impossible to get a job because <strong>of</strong> my<br />
past. I have served my time <strong>and</strong> want<br />
to make a new start.<br />
I’m Jack, a 35 year old library<br />
worker. I live alone in the city. I am<br />
also a wheel-chair user, <strong>and</strong> as I<br />
don’t drive, I use public transport<br />
to get around.<br />
