The purpose <strong>of</strong> the study presented here was:<br />
1. Establishment and validation <strong>of</strong> Electron Spin Resonance (ESR)<br />
measurements <strong>of</strong> nitric oxide from vessel rings using a bench top Bruker,<br />
e-scan spectroscope.<br />
2. Establishment and validation <strong>of</strong> ESR measurements <strong>of</strong> superoxide from<br />
the vessel rings.<br />
3. Quantitation <strong>of</strong> the relative contribution <strong>of</strong> each NOS is<strong>of</strong>orm to the total<br />
nitric oxide levels observed in atherosclerotic vessel and bioavailable<br />
nitrosyl hemoglobin (No-Hb) in the circulation.<br />
4. Determination <strong>of</strong> superoxide production by each NOS is<strong>of</strong>orm in the<br />
atherosclerotic vessel wall.<br />
