Calcium chloride 2.5 mM<br />

Magnesium sulphate 1.20 mM<br />

Sodium bicarbonate 25 mM<br />

Potassium dihydrogen phosphate 1.03 mM<br />

D (+) Glucose 5.6 mM<br />

Sodium Hepes 20 mM<br />

The above reagents were dissolved in 500 ml <strong>of</strong> MilliQ water. The pH<br />

was adjusted to 7.4. The pH was checked every day before use and the buffer<br />

was filtered using a 0.22 µm filter (Schleicher&Schuell).<br />

Phosphate Buffered Saline (PBS)<br />

9.55 g <strong>of</strong> PBS were dissolved in 1 litre <strong>of</strong> distilled water to obtain a<br />

working solution <strong>of</strong> PBS.<br />

Mayer’s Haemalaun stain<br />

Haematoxylin 6 g<br />

Sodium iodate 1 g<br />

Aluminium calcium sulphate 250 g<br />

Chloral hydrate 250 g<br />

Citric acid 5 g<br />

All these reagents were dissolved in 5 liters <strong>of</strong> distilled water.<br />
