ITINERARY
Uluru (Ayers Rock).
Alice Springs
It’s rustic, it’s remote and you’ll be right amongst it. Get up close to reptiles and snakes, but don’t
fear, they’re only at the Alice Springs Reptile Centre! After you’ve held a python (if you’re game),
you’ll see the MacDonnell Ranges from ANZAC Hill, the dry Todd River which hosts the famous annual
Henley-on-Todd Regatta, and see the Aboriginal site of Simpson’s Gap. (D)
Kings Canyon / Kings Creek Station / Uluru
Have you ever slept in a traditional Aussie canvas bedroll, or ‘swag’? If not, tonight’s your chance to
experience the real Australian Outback lifestyle as you camp out under the stars. It’s bush life at its
best. Before this, you’ll hang out with Walpiri Aboriginal community and hike through the dramatic
and starkly beautiful Kings Canyon to the ‘Lost City’ and the ‘Garden of Eden’. On Day 3, you’re off to
see the 700-million year old Lake Amadeus and Mt. Connor, boasting staggering 360-degree views
of the red desert. From here, make tracks for Uluru, Australia’s pin-up icon where framing shots is a
must! Next up, walk through its equally impressive neighbour, Kata Tjuta (a.k.a. the Olgas). (2B, D)
Uluru / Alice Springs
It’s an early rise this morning, but you’ll be rewarded with the changing colours of an Uluru sunrise.
Priceless. Take a walk around ‘The Rock’ and listen to local tales of this remarkable area and its
Aboriginal rock art. Complete the day by watching the sunset and toasting this awe-inspiring
view with a glass of bubbles! On Day 5, you return to ‘The Alice’ where you can explore the many
Aboriginal art galleries or just soak up those sublime rays. (2B)
Tennant Creek
You’re back on the road again but only after you’ve had the chance to opt for a once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity to take a hot-air balloon ride over the dusty desert and the incredible MacDonnell
Ranges at dawn. On the way to the ‘Top End’ you’ll cross the Tropic of Capricorn and arrive at
Tennant Creek, an old mining town in the middle of nowhere and the only point of contact for the
million-acre cattle stations that surround it. (B, D)
Katherine
It has been a busy few days and you deserve to chill out with a bevvy. You’ll have the chance to do
just that at the Northern Territory’s oldest pub, the Daly Waters, that has been licensed since 1893.
After hanging with some locals, cool off in Mataranka thermal pools before heading to the lush river
town of Katherine. (B)
Katherine / Kakadu National Park
Hike, walk, or opt to take a boat trip to see the massive Katherine Gorge up close. This afternoon, hit
the road and stop off at breathtaking Edith Falls for a swim before you pull up at World Heritagelisted
Kakadu National Park, which is Australia’s largest national park. You get the whole next day to
explore a variety of stunning landscapes, diverse wildlife and arguably Australia’s best Aboriginal rock
art at Nourlangie Rock. The landscapes of Ubirr will seriously impress. (2B, D)
Kakadu National Park / Litchfield National Park / Darwin
Cruise along a river to spot crocs and other native wildlife before heading to Darwin, the city that
serves as the capital of the tropical ‘Top End’. Take a city tour, enjoy Darwin Museum, hit the shops
or simply watch the world pass by. On Day 11, swim in the beautiful Florence Falls as you explore the
mighty Litchfield National Park. Marvel the park’s magnetic termite mounds and pick up a didgeridoo
or two before your trip comes to an end back in Darwin. (2B)
