ITINERARY
Sydney - Barrington Tops N.P.
From Sydney, kick the trip off in style with
wine tasting in the Hunter Valley. Tonight’s
unique stop is a private lodge overlooking the
Barrington River, which you’ll explore by inner
tube before catching your own fish for dinner!
Barrington Tops - Spot X Surf Camp
Spend the morning exploring Barrington N.P.
before heading via a koala hospital to overload
on cute but super-lazy critters. Travel on to
your waterfront digs at the legendary Spot X,
where you’ll enjoy an included surf lesson.
Spot X - River Camp - Byron Bay
Paddle by kayak to a remote riverside camp in
the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Tuck into a
sustainable, local produce dinner, perhaps with
fish or crab you’ve sourced yourself? On Day
4, kayak back out of the park and hop back on
the bus up to Byron, a friendly surf town with
a hippie vibe, where Day 5 is free to explore.
Gold Coast - Brisbane - Noosa
Head to Springbrook N.P. to tackle the Natural
Bridge Walk and to spot glowworms. Drive via
the high-rise party towns of the Gold Coast
where you may wish to hop off for a few days,
then travel via Brisbane to the upmarket resort
of Noosa. Hop off here for Fraser Island.
Cattle Station - Airlie - Magnetic Island
Travel by train/bus to a working cattle station
where you can sleep under the stars in a cosy
swag. On Day 8, catch an overnight train to
Airlie Beach. Jump off for the Whitsundays or
continue to tropical wildlife haven of Magnetic
Island to stay in a beachside lodge.
Indigenous Camp - Cairns
Travel deep into the rainforest of Tully Gorge
N.P. for a very special overnight stay. Help
your Aboriginal hosts prepare dinner and
share an enchanting evening of ‘Dreamtime’
stories around the fire. Trip concludes on
arrival into Cairns, late afternoon on Day 13.
ITINERARY
MIN. 8 DAYS
Cairns - Indigenous Camp - Airlie Beach
Travel by train to Tully, where you’ll meet your
Aboriginal guides and head into the rainforest
to tonight’s campsite. Enjoy a walk to Misty
Falls, go ‘spotlighting’ after dark to look for
tree kangaroos and share ‘Dreamtime’ stories
on this unique cultural interchange. Choose to
hop off in Tully for kayaking or rafting, then
continue to Airlie Beach for one or two free
days to discover the Whitsunday Islands.
Airlie Beach - Noosa
Travel by overnight train (reclining seats) to
the upmarket beach resort of Noosa on the
Sunshine Coast. Head into the National Park
for a spot of trekking, and then enjoy one or
two free days to relax and chill by the ocean.
Noosa - Brisbane - Byron Bay
Transfer onto one of Loka’s own buses to
drive via Brisbane and the high-rise resorts of
the Gold Coast, where you could hop off for
partying, surfing and theme parks. Continue
via the alternative town of Nimbin to reach
Australia’s coolest surf town, Byron Bay. Hop
off here to take in the laid-back hippie vibes.
Byron Bay - Spot X Surf Camp - Sydney
The final leg of your trip takes you via the
awesome, beachside surf camp known as Spot
X, a recommended place to break your journey.
From here, express down to Sydney where your
trip ends in the late afternoon on Day 8.
Inclusions – northbound & southbound
Accommodation: Not included, but can be booked via the
app, website or your guide - hostels (typically AUD $28
for shared dorm), motels (typically AUD $100) and special
overnight stops (typically AUD $60 incl. meals) Transport:
Private minibus, train, public bus, ferry Meals: Not
included other than within the cost of special overnight
stops Group Leader: Driver/guide Group Size: Max 24
you need to know....
Things are generally pretty
laid-back on Loka, so there are
only a few simple rules:
• Validity: You can start
your trip on Loka any time
up to 12 months after
purchase. Once your pass
has been activated, you
have 3 months to complete
your trip, but if your pass
includes travel from Noosa
to Cairns (or v.v.), you will
need to complete that
section within 1 month.
• Transport: You’ll travel on
Loka’s own buses between
Sydney and Noosa (and
v.v.), switching to a mix of
Queensland Rail trains and
local bus / ferry connections
between Noosa and Cairns
(and v.v.). We like to keep
things interesting!
• Guides: Loka’s awesome trip
leaders travel on all routes
on the set departure days.
Hopefully you’ll like them
enough to want to travel
with them (that’s kinda the
whole point of the trip!) but
if your pass includes travel
from Noosa and Cairns (or
v.v.), you can travel on the
trains on your own. You just
won’t be able to access the
private transfers and unique
stopover options without
your guide. Which we think
kinda defeats the purpose.
