Daily ProceedingsFIRST DAY<strong>District</strong> <strong>Assembly</strong> Rally ServiceMonday, July 25, 2011, 7:00 p.m.The <strong>District</strong> Choir began the service singing “Through the Fire.” The<strong>District</strong> Praise Team led the congregation in singing “The Everlasting God” and“Made Me Glad.”Dr. Eddie Estep welcomed everyone to the service and recognized specialvisitors. The <strong>District</strong> Choir then sang “Something Happens” followed by the PraiseTeam leading the congregation in singing “Revelation Song.”Dr. Estep asked all ministers to stand and led in a responsive reading in honor of ourministers and asked the congregation to gather around a nearby minister and to prayfor that minister.Before serving Communion, Dr. Estep explained that the Church of theNazarene believes in open Communion and invited all believers to participate inCommunion. As Communion was being served, the <strong>District</strong> Praise Team sang “ThePower of the Cross.” Following the Lord’s Supper, Dr. Estep introduced pastors ofthe two newest churches on the district.Rev. Ken and Rev. Mary Paynter, Clemson – the Bridge pastors, deliveredtheir fourth pastors’ report. Rev. Bill Higgins, Honea Path Genesis pastor, presentedhis second pastor’s report.An offering was received for SC <strong>District</strong> Compassionate Ministries. The“Celebration of Baptism” video was played during the offering. Following thevideo, the <strong>District</strong> Praise Team sang “The Comforter Has Come.”General Superintendent Jesse Middendorf began his sermon by reviewing the corevalues of the Church of the Nazarene. We are Christian; we are Missional; we areHoliness. After highlighting the core values, Dr. Middendorf asked the congregationto turn to Acts 1:1-11 and pointed out that we can live the Kingdom life in a brokenworld only through the power of the Holy Spirit.We need the power of the Holy Spirit to 1) break our stubborn will; 2) dealwith incredible losses and adversities; 3) love our enemies and deal with brokenrelationships; and 4) win the world. Apart from the Holy Spirit, we cannot doanything. When He comes, He is enough. We need to be sure to invite Him to ournext gathering at our churches. Dr. Middendorf closed his message in prayer.After announcements, Dr. Estep dismissed the congregation.69 th SC <strong>District</strong> <strong>Assembly</strong>Tuesday Morning, July 26, 2011The morning session of the 69 th South Carolina <strong>District</strong> <strong>Assembly</strong> began at8:30 a.m. with Mike McAdory playing “My Tribute” accompanied by Brian Watts.Mike led the congregation in singing the “New Doxology.”75
Dr. Robert Broadbooks, USA/Canada Regional Director, brought greetingsand led the congregation in prayer. Dr. Eddie Estep welcomed Dr. and Mrs. JesseMiddendorf.Dr. Middendorf brought a devotional message and challenged andencouraged everyone to follow God’s plan.<strong>District</strong> Secretary, Rev. Greg Pressley, made the followingrecommendations for the organization of the <strong>Assembly</strong>: That the recording secretarybe Joy Klotzle and election secretary be Eddie Felder. Pages were Rev. Bill Watts,Rev. David Snodgrass, and Rev. Brandon Watts. Rev. Pressley then called Board ofTellers Nos. 1 and 2 and recommended that the voting area be the main floor of thesanctuary, mezzanine, sound booth, and district office. Times of services were setfor Monday evening at 7 p.m. and Tuesday 8:30–Noon, 2 p.m.–adjournment, and 7p.m. for ordination service. Special orders of the day included the <strong>District</strong>Superintendent’s report at 10 a.m., university report at 11 a.m., memorial service at11:50 a.m., and ordination service at 7 p.m.Special greetings will be sent to our missionaries; to the widow of formerdistrict superintendent, Mrs. D. W. Thaxton; to retired district superintendent emeriti,Dr. and Mrs. James Bearden and Drs. Moody and Nina Gunter. Greetings will alsobe sent to Holland and Betty Webb of the Greenville First church who are serving inGuatemala. By common consent these recommendations were approved.A motion was made and seconded to seat the alternates and accept theorganization of the assembly. The recommendation was adopted by the delegation.Motion was made and seconded to accept Partial Report No. 1 of the MinisterialCredentials Board. Motion passed.Dr. Estep presented new pastors and spouses to the assembly.Dr. Middendorf presented Dr. Edward L. Estep for his fifth <strong>District</strong> Superintendent’sreport. Dr. Estep presented this year’s “Top Ten” list of highlights. Then he took alook at our progress toward our three district goals. 1) Foster a Hunger for God; 2)Facilitate Leadership Development; and 3) Further Fruitfulness. Report wasreceived with a standing ovation and motion was made and seconded to adopt thereport. Motion passed.Rev. Richard Coleman, secretary of the <strong>District</strong> Advisory Board, presentedDiane Estep with a bouquet of flowers. He then expressed appreciation andpresented a gift to Dr. Estep. The Esteps thanked the district and expressed theirlove.Dr. Middendorf drew attention to the Committee on Nominations, PartialReport Nos. 1, 2, and 3. A motion was made to adopt the report, seconded, and thereport was adopted.Board of Tellers No. 1 was called to distribute Official Ballot #1 for <strong>District</strong>Advisory Board, Ministerial Credentials Board, and Trustee to Trevecca. The<strong>District</strong> Advisory Board ministerial nominees were Chuck Fountain, RodneyLindsay, Ben LaPlace, and Harry Varn.
