Morris, Elaine Sebyt, Steven Torman, Dana Wolfe] andasked the newly licensed ministers and their spouses to stand. He charged each o<strong>net</strong>o keep a guard upon his own soul by maintaining a daily devotional life and walkwith the Spirit. He reminded each to minister first to his or her own spouse andchildren, to support their local church and pastor, and to preach and teach the Word,to be faithful stewards of time, talents, and resources, and to be faithful to do thethings needed for ordination. He asked the newly licensed ministers if they wouldcovenant with the <strong>Assembly</strong> to accept this charge and if so to say “I will.” Dr. Estepthen prayed for the newly licensed ministers. Following the prayer, he asked them tojoin their fellow ministers in the choir.Presentation of the Ordinand: Rev. Greg Pressley presented the ordinandJeremey Marquis Veal.Receiving of the Ordinand: Dr. Jesse Middendorf received JeremeyMarquis Veal for ordination. He then explained what it meant to be ordained.Examination of the Ordinand: Dr. Middendorf directed several questions tothe congregation and then asked the ordinand some questions and asked him torespond.The Ministers’ Choir, led by Dennis Pinnell, sang “Hear the Call of theKingdom.”Three young people in the Readers’ Theater read paragraphs 401-401.5 from theManual. These paragraphs outline the qualifications for ministers.Following the reading, Mike McAdory, Tim Godby, and Dennis Pinnell sang “IThen Shall Live.”Dr. Middendorf began his message by reading from 2 Timothy 4:1-8 wherePaul is writing from prison and had reached the place in his life that he could trustGod in whatever circumstances came his way. He is writing admonitions toTimothy, his son in the faith. (1) Proclaim the message – it is a life-transformingmessage that is the hope of the world. (2) Do the work of an evangelist – hard workand necessity for every minister and layperson. (3) Endurehardship/suffering/affliction – face reality of spiritual warfare as you plead forothers. (4) Carry out ministry fully – it is a lifetime commitment. When you reachretirement, you may lay down some responsibilities, but you will continue to serve asan elder. He concluded by asking the elders present if they would accept theordinand and received a positive response.Ordination Ritual: Dr. Middendorf asked the <strong>District</strong> Secretary, GregPressley, to bring the ordinand and wife to the platform. He then asked for theordinand’s family and local church people to stand in support. All ordainedministers were invited to come behind the candidate for the laying on of hands. Dr.Middendorf delivered the charge to Jeremy Marquis Veal. The prayer ofconsecration was offered by Dr. Dan Boone. Following the prayer, Dr. Middendorfpresented the ordinand with his certificate of ordination. Dr. Boone presented himwith a sculpture from TNU entitled “The Calling.” The congregation was invited to81
