Dr. Robert Broadbooks, USA/Canada Regional Director, brought greetingsand led the congregation in prayer. Dr. Eddie Estep welcomed Dr. and Mrs. JesseMiddendorf.Dr. Middendorf brought a devotional message and challenged andencouraged everyone to follow God’s plan.District Secretary, Rev. Greg Pressley, made the followingrecommendations for the organization of the Assembly: That the recording secretarybe Joy Klotzle and election secretary be Eddie Felder. Pages were Rev. Bill Watts,Rev. David Snodgrass, and Rev. Brandon Watts. Rev. Pressley then called Board ofTellers Nos. 1 and 2 and recommended that the voting area be the main floor of thesanctuary, mezzanine, sound booth, and district office. Times of services were setfor Monday evening at 7 p.m. and Tuesday 8:30–Noon, 2 p.m.–adjournment, and 7p.m. for ordination service. Special orders of the day included the DistrictSuperintendent’s report at 10 a.m., university report at 11 a.m., memorial service at11:50 a.m., and ordination service at 7 p.m.Special greetings will be sent to our missionaries; to the widow of formerdistrict superintendent, Mrs. D. W. Thaxton; to retired district superintendent emeriti,Dr. and Mrs. James Bearden and Drs. Moody and Nina Gunter. Greetings will alsobe sent to Holland and Betty Webb of the Greenville First church who are serving inGuatemala. By common consent these recommendations were approved.A motion was made and seconded to seat the alternates and accept theorganization of the assembly. The recommendation was adopted by the delegation.Motion was made and seconded to accept Partial Report No. 1 of the MinisterialCredentials Board. Motion passed.Dr. Estep presented new pastors and spouses to the assembly.Dr. Middendorf presented Dr. Edward L. Estep for his fifth District Superintendent’sreport. Dr. Estep presented this year’s “Top Ten” list of highlights. Then he took alook at our progress toward our three district goals. 1) Foster a Hunger for God; 2)Facilitate Leadership Development; and 3) Further Fruitfulness. Report wasreceived with a standing ovation and motion was made and seconded to adopt thereport. Motion passed.Rev. Richard Coleman, secretary of the District Advisory Board, presentedDiane Estep with a bouquet of flowers. He then expressed appreciation andpresented a gift to Dr. Estep. The Esteps thanked the district and expressed theirlove.Dr. Middendorf drew attention to the Committee on Nominations, PartialReport Nos. 1, 2, and 3. A motion was made to adopt the report, seconded, and thereport was adopted.Board of Tellers No. 1 was called to distribute Official Ballot #1 for DistrictAdvisory Board, Ministerial Credentials Board, and Trustee to Trevecca. TheDistrict Advisory Board ministerial nominees were Chuck Fountain, RodneyLindsay, Ben LaPlace, and Harry Varn. DAB layperson nominees were RichardDavis, Ron Howard, Paul Hines, and Ken McDougall.
