CHALLENGESouth Carolina District family, we have worked hard together during this past year to advance the cause of Jesus across this great district, from the Low Country to the Midlands to the Upstate, and there is much work still to be done. We must evidence an urgency to see the lost saved and the saved discipled. We are engaged in a majestic effort and our calling is nothing less than to be used of God to see transformed lives, families, neighborhoods, and communities across South Carolina. District SDMI ChairmanDr. Middendorf, Dr. Estep, members of the South Carolina District SDMIBoard, members and friends of this convention:It is my privilege to bring to you my second report as chairman for theSouth Carolina District SDMI. Our mission is clear: “Making Christlike Disciples inthe Nations.” The report before you today is the combined report of Nazarenes fromall over South Carolina in doing just that. You will notice that I did not say the reportof churches, SDMI Chairpersons, or of pastors. The reason for this is simple. Theaccomplishing of this mission is the responsibility of “all of us.” This is “our report.”A little later today we will have the opportunity to hear from our DistrictAdult and Children’s Ministry Directors and even “see” a little video of some eventsthat were held this past year. I am proud to say that under the leadership of Rev. BillWatts in Adult Ministries, and Rev. Dana Bays in Children’s Ministries, SouthCarolina SDMI has once again provided a number of wonderful opportunities forpeople, young and old, to “Make the Connection” to Jesus Christ.As a District I want you to know that we are blessed to have a truly giftedand caring SDMI Council and the consistent support and encouragement of ourDistrict Superintendent, Dr. Eddie Estep. My personal appreciation of and for themcontinues to grow as we serve together.“Our” Statistical ReportWe all know that statistics never tell the “whole story” about how wearrived at our end of the year numbers, but they do help us to assess the effectivenessof our stewardship of what has been entrusted to us.88
