4. District NYI PresidentDr. Estep and Members of the 2011 NYI Convention,I count it a privilege to deliver my first report as the South Carolina District NYIPresident. I must confess that I stood before you a year ago and accepted thisposition, thinking I was aware of most of what that entailed; was I in for a rudeawakening! While there has been a lot to learn, I have truly enjoyed this year ofservice. You elected a council last year that has been incredible to work with, and Iwould like to thank them for their committed service, first to the Kingdom and thento you. It is exciting to spend time with this group of people who have served with apassion to see the cause of Christ advanced in the life of South Carolina teens. Youalso elected a vice-president whom I have grown to love and respect as a man of Godand who has a heart for ministry. Thanks, David, for your administrative help whichincluded tons of emails, contacts and, behind the scene details. We have had several well attended district events this year. Our fall retreat Breakaway which took place at Camp Thunderbird. JustinStaten served as our director this year and did a fantastic job putting this eventtogether. Charlie led us in worship and we divided the speaking up to Justin, Jeremeyand Brad. God used them to speak to the hearts of our students and adults alike. Thanks, Justin, for your service. Our District Quizzing continued to be in good hands with Sarah Loging as ourdistrict quizzing director for the past several years, Thank you, Sarah, for yourdedicated service! If your church is not involved in quizzing I urge you to look intothis program. It is one of the greatest tools I know about for your students to learnthe Word.TNT@MV Co led by Mike McAdory and Sherri Hawkins: this event is alwayswell attended and is a great lead in event to our regional TNT @ TNU which MikeMcAdory led as well and did a phenomenal job.Springfest which was led by David Snodgrass was another great event as weincorporated a social justice theme throughout the evening thanks to Jeremey Veal.Youth camp our theme was DEVOTED (Deuteronomy 6:5). This was one of thegreatest youth camps that I have ever been a part. Thanks, in great part to MattHastings and Vinyl Thief. And the great camp committee which included JeremeyVeal, Brad Bellomy, Sean Virden, James Dolinger, and Tasha Alison. I cannot say“Thanks” enough for what this group did to make this event a great success. The Event we were just coming off of was NYC 2011. WOW what an amazingweek spent with the focus of a world UN BROKEN with 6,000 other people. AHUGE thank you goes out to Jeremey Veal for stepping in and helping lead thisevent.I would like to give a special thank you to Brad Bellomy, who has been a friendfor several years, and through this transition year, he has been a great help, mentor, and voice of experience.95
I cannot forget my own church staff family and youth group. Thank you forallowing me to serve in this capacity. I appreciate the willingness and vision that weshare in making district events successful and beneficial for South Carolina NYI.You guys are the best! However, there are a few others that mean much more to me. The first is myamazing wife, Amy, whose heart beats for ministry. She is my behind-the-scenesworker, cheerleader, prayer warrior and my best friend. Then I have two amazingkids, Peighton and Garrison, who add inspiration and prayer support to my job. Thanks to you teens who make them feel a part of everything that goes on. Theylove being a part of the things in which Amy and I are involved. I am thankful thatGod has blessed me with a family that loves Him!It’s an honor to serve as your District President and I look forward to what Godhas for us in 2011-2012 as we live to Glorify Him.I am still amazed at why God would call a young man from Bethany, Oklahomawho spits when he says his Ssss into ministry with Him, but I give Him praise for it.God is faithful and I give Him all the Glory for the great things that have happenedfor South Carolina NYI this past year.Respectfully submitted,MIKE O’HAIRB.
