8.2. Laying instructions for Bauwerk Tripark
(prefinished -layer parquet with tongue and groove joints)
Product description
Bauwerk Tripark with tongue and groove -joints is a parquet floor for floating
installation. The boards are connected by gluing together the tongues and
grooves with PVAC glue.
Suitable subfloors
Bauwerk Tripark may be laid on any flat, dry and sufficiently solid subfloor, e.g.
concrete, cement, anhydrite and cast asphalt subfloors, plywood, chip board,
short-pile, carpets (e.g. needle felt - but not such including foam underlays), PVC,
and linoleum flooring. The subfloors should comply with the usual requirements
for the installation of Hardwood flooring (clean, level, strong, dry and free
from cracks, contamination etc) and should always be carefully inspected and
checked before installing parquet. Bauwerk Tripark parquet cannot level out any
unevenness or undulation in the subfloor. The according requirements should be
already fulfilled in the subfloor prior to installation. An unevenness of 3mm over
a measuring distance of 2m has to be levelled out. This parquet is suitable for
use in combination with floor heating. However, particular attention should be
paid to the installation instructions when doing so. The heat must be evenly and
efficiently distributed over the entire floor area. The temperature of the parquet
surface must not exceed 27°C. This also applies in the vicinity of heating pipes,
under carpets, etc.
Important installation hints
• Bauwerk Tripark parquet boxes have to be handled carefully to avoid causing
any damage to the parquet.
• Do not store the packs in or near any areas of dampness or high moisture.
• Open the boxes only shortly before the installation.
• Bauwerk Tripark is a natural product, and as such will absorb moisture from
the atmosphere. If the humidity level within a room is too high, the floor will
absorb too much moisture from the air, causing it to swell. The installation
of Bauwerk Tripark parquet should therefore not take place if the humidity in
the room exceeds 75% relative air humidity.
• During the installation the room temperature should be at least 18°C (64.4°F)
and the temperature of the material should not be below 15°C (59°F).
• An Age resistant 0.2 mm Polythene vapour barrier must be installed over
newly cast cementitious subfloors, on ground floor concrete slabs, suspended
concrete slabs (i.e.: in rooms without a basement below) crawl spaces and
where underfloor heating has been installed, as a protection against rising
damp. Sheets must overlap by at least 20 cm and joints should be taped.
• A 2 mm thick intermediate layer of foam to reduce footfall and impact sound
insulation should be installed loosely over any vapour barrier sheeting.
• In long, narrow rooms, the planks should be laid in the long direction of the
room for optical reasons.
• If necessary, it is possible to lay Bauwerk Tripark parquet in reverse direction
(for example in rooms with difficult and complex floor plans).
• The flooring moves as the air humidity changes. Hence expansion gaps of
at least 10mm must be allowed at all walls and fixed objects such as stairs,
posts or door frames. For larger areas, allow 1.5 mm of expansion gap
per metre flooring width. (As measured when looking across the width of
the boards) This gap must be left around the perimeter of the entire floor.
If the floor is wider than 12 meters, the floor area must be divided by an
expansion gap across the floor.
• Calculate how many planks fit into the room width. If the last row of planks
is narrower than 50mm, the first row should also be cut lengthwise. This
results in a visually more pleasing edge finish.
• Transitions to other rooms are done with thresholds or connecting pieces.
• The installation of Bauwerk Tripark parquet should be scheduled as the
last construction-activity on site. If this is not possible, the installed floor
should be appropriately protected using hardboard sheets or building paper
(Sisalkraft etc) in order to avoid any damage to the installed floor from other
following activities.
• Duct tape holding covering material should never be applied directly to the
parquet as it can damage its surface treatment.
• Full-area bonding of the planks to a suitable subfloor is technically possible.
