General notes
Lacquering 1 parquet makes it easier to clean and gives the floor a shiny and
smooth appearance. Before the lacquering can be done, the parquet floor has
to be perfectly 2 sanded and carefully cleaned. Only this guarantees a flawless
result. Inaccurate sanding, gaps, damaged surfaces as well as insufficiently or
not at all sanded scratches cannot be smoothed out by lacquering the floor.
On the contrary, lacquering 3 them will only make them even more visible.
Before the sealant is applied it is recommend that all horizontally adjacent
areas (e.g. stone floors, carpets) are covered, in order to avoid unwanted
lacquer spots.
The sealant cannot be more resistant to mechanical pressure than the parquet
underneath. The woods pressure resistance is not or only marginally affected
by the lacquer.
Priming
Priming is important for many reasons:
– Minimal flow into the joints (when using water-based and PU-sealants).
Preservation of contents and characteristics (for exotic woods)
– Blocking off wax and other impurities (for renovations of old floors)
– Intensifying the wood’s colours (when using water-based sealants)
Primers are usually applied using a roller. The application cycles should be
done at right angles to each other (minimizing roller marks). In general primers
are not to be sanded. The necessary intermediate sanding cycle is carried out
before the last top coat application.
