Solvent-containing system:
Priming with Rustic Oil. Carefully vacuum clean the remaining saw dust
of the sanded parquet floor (grade 120/ 150). Before the oil is applied it is
recommend that all horizontally and vertically adjacent areas (e.g. stone floors,
carpets) are covered, in order to keep them free of oil stains.
– The solvent-containing Rustic Oil is evenly applied on the floor using a broad
brush or a rubber blade. On well-absorbing woods (e.g. Beech) the amount
applied should be approx. 0.2 l/m 2 . On less-absorbing woods (e.g. Oak, Ash)
approx. 0.1 l/m 2 . Furthermore, it is recommended to carry out two wet-onwet
cycles with half the amount of oil on well-absorbing floors.
– Since the oil is not absorbed evenly over the whole area it is necessary to
spread out the oil, i.e. the floor can and must be walked on again in order to
disperse the oil from shiny, non-absorbing areas to sections where the floor
can still absorb. For this operation a single-disc machine with a polishing pad
is used. The oil is polished until no more pad-tracks can be seen and no wet
and shiny spots are left (make sure to change the pad when needed).
– When working in large rooms it is necessary to divide the working area. This
means that only areas, which are small enough are able to be processed
within the oil’s open time (approx. 30- 45min) should be oiled at once.
Working in teams allows processing bigger areas at once.
– After the polishing the oil-primed surface should be left to cure for at least
16-18 hours and not be walked on.
To avoid footstep marks it is recommended to work towards the door.
Finishing process with Rustic Oil
– The oil-primed area is smoothened with the single-disc machine with a
sanding pad (e.g. SIA-pad brown). Remove all the saw dust after this is
done.
– Application of a thin layer of Rustic Oil using a broad brush or a rubber blade
(approx. 0.02-0.05 l/m 2 ).
– Spreading out the oil is done the same way as in the priming process, using
the single-disc machine with the white polishing pad. Drying the floor is
carried out by placing an absorbent towel under the pad and repeating the
process until the floor is matt-finished. (Attention: Wet, non-finished areas
or oil remains will result in high-gloss spots).
– The finished floor should be left to cure for at least 8-10 hours and not be
walked on.
– After the floor has been left to cure the parquet can be dry-polished in order
to achieve a light silk-matt appearance.
Solvent-free system:
Priming with Rustic Oil Solid 100
– Carefully vacuum clean the remaining saw dust of the sanded parquet
floor (grade 120/ 150). Before the oil is applied it is recommend that all
horizontally and vertically adjacent areas (e.g. stone floors, carpets) are
covered, in order to keep them free of oil stains.
– The solvent-free Rustic Oil Solid 100 is evenly applied on the floor using a
broad brush or a rubber blade. (Rustic Oil Solid 100 has a strong intensifying
effect on the woods natural colour.) On well-absorbing woods (e.g. Beech)
the oil should be applied twice with a curing time in between of approx.
16-18 hours. On less-absorbing woods (e.g. Oak, Ash) one application cycle
is enough (approx. 0.1 – 0.15 l/m²).
– The oil is polished with a single-disc machine with a polishing pad until no
more pad-tracks can be seen and no wet and shiny spots are left (make sure
to change the pad when needed).
Finishing process with Rustic Top-Oil
– The oil-primed area is smoothened with the single-disc machine with a
sanding pad (e.g. SIA-pad brown). Remove all the saw dust after this is
done.
