This worldview is not confined to extremists: elements of its philosophy are<br />

widespread within parts of the Muslim community. Even some key government<br />

partners have advocated the idea <strong>that</strong> Britain and America are at war with Islam,<br />

while simultaneously enjoying official recognition from the state. One such<br />

group is the Muslim Association of Britain (MAB), which was involved in the<br />

foundation of the Mosques and Imams National Advisory Board (MINAB), 305 a<br />

body created after 7/7 to regulate mosques. 306<br />

Anas Altikriti, a founder and a former president of the MAB, told a BBC<br />

audience in 2004 <strong>that</strong> he believed the ‘War on Terror’ was a ‘War on Islam’. 307 He<br />

said <strong>that</strong> the West aimed:<br />
