Standard Three 53receive a list of their advisees and many remind the students to sign upfor advising appointments by letter or phone calls.Counseling and PlacementA variety of options are available to students and community memberswho wish to explore careers which are consistent with their values,interests, and skills. Exploring career options prior to enrollment, duringenrollment, or after graduation is possible. Some advisors include careerplanning in their academic/educational planning sessions to help studentstransition into work environments. In fact, many of our technicalprograms include job search and resume writing segments in theircurriculum as do special programs for dislocated workers (New Chance),Teen Parent, Adult Basic Education Transition, and Families That Work, acollaborative program with the Department of Social and Health <strong>Services</strong>.The Counseling/Career Center has begun offering short afternoon andevening non-credit workshops this past year, but persons who wish to domore extensive exploration have the option to work individually with acounselor or in a class for credit. This credit-bearing class is offered eachterm through <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Services</strong> and provides an opportunity for astructured exploration of values, interests, and skills, the job market,occupational information, and decision making. Standardized testing ispart of the class. The <strong>College</strong> also offers the class throughcorrespondence with a workbook and three meetings with a careercounselor.For those who are interested, personality, career interest, and careerability tests may be taken in conjunction with career counseling. Anumber of computerized career exploration tools can be usedindependently or in conjunction with counseling services.The Counseling/Career Center provides resources necessary to researchjobs and employers. These resources include the WashingtonOccupational Information System (WOIS), Vocational Biographies, andmany other books on various careers.
