Standard Three 56Some staff have wondered if the <strong>College</strong> might wish to take a more activerole in promoting awareness of several problems that often face collegeagestudents such as binge drinking, drug abuse, STDs, domesticviolence, unwanted pregnancies, and date rape.<strong>Student</strong> HousingThe <strong>College</strong> does not provide housing for students. However, theFoundation owns and operates a single house used by internationalstudents with convenient access to the campus. The International Houseopened winter, 1997, and serves as a residence for four students. Thehouse has furnished private bedrooms which are computer and phoneaccessible, two bathrooms, laundry room, kitchen, and dining area. Thestaff consists of a resident assistant (RA) who is also an internationalstudent. The student is the liaison to the Business Office and considersthe needs and concerns of other residents.Since 1992, international students may participate in a HomestayProgram. This program provides an opportunity for international studentsto experience American family life in the <strong>Centralia</strong>-Chehalis area and getadditional language practice. <strong>Student</strong>s are matched with host familiesbased on interests, hobbies, and priorities of the student and family. Bothmust complete an application package and prospective families mustmeet a number of requirements including participation in a mandatoryhost family orientation and home visit. The orientation explains collegeprograms, medical insurance issues, money matters, culture shock, andwhat support services are available for the family and the student. TheBusiness Office complies with Internal Revenue Service requirements inaccounting for the Homestay Program and issues form 1099 MISC. forhousing payments made to families.AnalysisMost students who attend the <strong>College</strong> either live at home or are heads ofhouseholds. There is reasonable housing close to the campus. The
