Red CodeRegional Disaster Common Defencewww.cadsesredcode.netProject DescriptionResults and EffectsThe European Commission aims at strengtheningthe co-operation of EU Member States in the fieldof civil protection. Project collaboration effortsshould help reduce natural and technological risksand mitigate the consequences of potential disastersby linking research activities and the operativelevel of civil protection. The inclusion of thenew EU Member States in <strong>CADSES</strong> requires thecreation and sharing of common guidelines andtools to prevent and manage natural and manmadedisasters. For this reason action plans for riskmanagement need to be jointly drawn up and appliedon a transnational basis.The Red Code project targets the following results:i Analysis of the civil protection systems in theregions involved in the Red Code project,i Planning, promotion and development of integratednational, regional and local civil protectionsystems,i Definition and adjustment of common spatialdevelopment regulations, rules and procedures,i Common guidelines and manuals on matters ofemergency planning and on best practice for civilprotection tools,i Creation of risk maps,i Establishment of a European network of civilRed Code aims at setting up methodologies andactions to achieve the basis for a transnationalprotocol of agreements for disaster prevention,monitoring and management. Best practices andcommon procedures should be established.
