UTN IIUrban Technology Network IIwww.utn.at/Project DescriptionResults and EffectsUTN II is a direct follow-up project of the UTNUrban Technology Network under <strong>INTERREG</strong> IIC.UTN included four formal partner cities and morethan 30 interested cities. Interest and need forcontinuation of co-operation in the field of urbantechnologies and urban development have recentlybeen stressed by various proposals for pilot projectspresented to the project management of UTN.The network infrastructure enables a focus to beplaced on setting up a clear and transparent selection,decision-making and the implementationprocess of pilot co-operation projects that can usethe existing network to increase the developmentof fundable projects. The international frameworkfor co-operation among cities on developing projectsto improve urban infrastructure is stressedby Habitat <strong>III</strong>, where cities are committed to internationalnetworks of co-operation in order toexchange suitable technologies.Furthermore, the UTN II project focuses on:i Supporting cities in the preparation of pilot cooperationprojects for funding or for the searchfor private/public investors to enhance investmentin urban services and infrastructure toestablish a more balanced standard of living in<strong>CADSES</strong> cities,i Providing training to upgrade the technicaland organisational know-how in provision andmanagement of urban services in the <strong>CADSES</strong>area,i Providing technical assistance to link cities inneed of upgrading their urban services to citiesready to transfer their technical and managementexperiences,i Providing easy access to information for all networkpartners.The close co-operation of political and administrativedecision-making bodies and experts onthe various urban technologies of the cities participatingin the UTN II network on concrete pilotco-operation projects and in the long-run, oninvestment projects in urban infrastructure createsa corporate understanding of the effects ofupgrading infrastructure and urban services for allinstitutions involved.The dissemination of common quality standardswithin the pilot co-operations projects as well asinduced by know-how exchange and transfer inthe transnational workshops and exchange programmesshould lead to a more balanced situationwithin the <strong>CADSES</strong> area in the mid-term.The preparation of co-operation projects withinthe network and further the approval and implementationof these projects will have positiveeffects on urban economic development. Localcompanies have been contracted in implementingor upgrading urban services.
