MATRIOSCA-AAPMAnagement Tools and Relations for Interregional Organisation toStrengthening Co-operation In AAPwww.matriosca.netProject DescriptionRegions on the fringes of long established, newor forthcoming EU Member States, in particular, are in need of transnational collaborations and development. The co-operation area of the MATRI-OSCA-AAP project, the „Adria-Alpe-Pannonia“(AAP) space, comprises old and new EU MemberStates as well as candidate countries. It is characterisedby strong regional and cultural diversity.Meeting of the thematic working groups, March 2006,Brdo (Slovenia)The MATRIOSCA-AAP project concentrates onterritories located at the interface of these countriesand involves regions from Austria, Italy,Hungary, and Slovenia as well as the candidatecountry Croatia. In recent years the amount of cooperationon the project level in the AAP regionhas increased considerably and many new, but yetfragmented contacts have been established. Theaim of the project is to promote an integrated andco-ordinated development of the AAP region byovercoming the problem of the numerous, but unorganisedcontacts on political, administrative andexpert level. The project should also help to intensifycollaboration efforts regarding developmentmatters in the AAP co-operation area. Also otheradministrations of the region, like the VarazdinCounty (Croatia) and the Autonomous Provinceof Vojvodina (Serbia) contribute to the successfulproject implementation. Results and EffectsMATRIOSCA-AAP targets an institutional settingwhich includes different political and administrativelevels and which acknowledges present requirementsand future opportunities of the region. This structure should enable stable relationshipsand a clear definition of the connection of the projectarea to the Alps-Adriatic community and theEUREGIOS. The partners involved should activelycollaborate to set up a sound baseline analysis, joint strategies and a series of co-operation projects.Networks and contacts already establishedor outputs produced by other transnational activitieswill be considered for the new co-operationstructure, notably the ongoing INTERREG III B/Cprojects in which partners from the co-operationarea participate.Further main effects and results of this project willbe:i Complementary advantages offered by collaborationwhich helps to avoid duplications andoverlaps in planning and development mattersfor the regions involved,i Intensified collaboration between old and newEU Member States,i Improved understanding of the present situationand future trends in key areas of spatialdevelopment (e.g. functional relationships betweensectors/sub-regions),i Establishment of networks at administrative andexpert level in areas of key relevance for spatialdevelopment,i Compilation of a compendium of baseline data.DurationStart ....................................................... 06/2005End ......................................................... 12/2007Budget (EUR)Total Budget .......................................854,000.00thereof ERDF ......................................488,000.00Kick-off-meeting of the MATRIOSCA managementboard, July 2005, Castle of Seggau (Austria)EU Regions/Member StatesNon EU Member StatesLead PartnerProject Partner0 200 kmLead PartnerOffice of the State Government of StyriaFA1E - Dept. for European Affairs and External RelationsNikolaiplatz 38020 GrazAUSTRIAContact PersonMs Maria Elßer-EibelTel +43 316 877-5518Fax +43 316 877-3629E-Mail fa1e@stmk.gv.atProject PartnersAustriaOffice of the State Government Carinthia, KlagenfurtOffice of the State Government Burgenland, EisenstadtCroatiaKoprivnica – Krizevci County, KoprivnicaRegion of Istria, PulaHungaryZala County Non-Profit Development Company, NagypáliGeneral Assembly of Baranya County, PécsSelf-Government of Gyor – Moson – Sopron County, GyorSomogy County Government, KaposvárGeneral Assembly of Vas County, SzombathelyGeneral Assembly of Tolna County, SzekszárdItalyAutonomous Region Friuli Venezia Giulia, TriesteVeneto Region, VeniceSloveniaNational Agency for Regional Development, LjubljanaSPATIAL DEVELOPMENTMEASURE 1.1INTERREG III B CADSES / PROJECT BOOK25
