InServNetInterregional Innovative Services Sector Network of Excellencewww.inservnet.netSPATIAL DEVELOPMENTMEASURE 1.1Project DescriptionCompanies belonging to the service sector are oftensmall- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)characterised by flexibility and a huge innovationpotential. They can be the backbone of regionalinnovation processes. In many cases this potentialremains unutilised. A possible transformationtowards sustainable development and economicgrowth, creation of new products, new employmentand internationalisation strategies is notpursued.The InServNet project aims at strengthening relationshipsbetween companies, administrations,innovation and development organisations andresearch institutions in the participating regions. Itfosters spatial integration by establishing and intensifyingthe cooperation between these actors.There is a special focus on small- and mediumsizedenterprises in the innovative services sector.InServNet addresses the shortfall in the collaborationpotential of SMEs in the services sector byaiming at the elaboration of guidelines for regionaland interregional innovation and for the support ofthese innovation processes. The goal is to supportthe establishment of transnational, organisationaland technological links between industries, SMEs,the regional innovation system, stakeholders andregional as well as national administrative bodies.Results and EffectsThe long-term effect of the project is to overcomecurrent regional imbalances between EU Memberand Non-EU Member States as well as imbalancesbetween rural and urban areas by fostering andsupporting the cooperation potential betweenSMEs and local administrations, regional stakeholders,technology and regional innovation centres.Other expected results and effects of this project,some of which have already been achieved, are:i Development of a standardised innovativecooperation tool which should be transferredto and used by other regions to enhance thetransnational, inter-sector cooperation potentialof regional SMEs and to support sustainablespatial development at this level,i Database of service sector SMEs and their networkactivities,i Survey on interregional cooperation potentialsof service sector SMEs,i Analyses of political, economic and infrastructureprocesses and tendencies at regional, nationaland transnational level,i Increased cooperation between the regions ingeneral and increased number of cooperationof small- and medium-sized companies in theservices sector,i Co-operation model in different fields such asjoint learning, project development and innovationprocesses,i Common project web platform with informationon the project and a cooperation platformfor innovative services sector enterprises,i Pilot test of the applicability of the platformand the cooperation models and creation of ahandbook including three thematic regionaland transnational spatial development conceptsfocussing on the pilot studies, a concept fortransferring the project results to other regionsand a concept for transnational, cross-sectorcooperation,i Training, information and dissemination activitiesat regional and interregional level.InServNet supports the establishment of links betweenindustries, administrative bodies, and the regionalinnovation systemDurationStart ....................................................... 11/2003End ......................................................... 04/2007Budget (EUR)Total Budget ....................................1,734,000.00thereof ERDF ......................................975,000.00EU Regions/Member StatesNon EU Member StatesLead PartnerProject PartnerLead PartnerTelepark Bärnbach Errichtungs- u.
