HYDROCAREHydrological Cycle of the CADSES Regionswww.hydrocare-cadses.netProject DescriptionResults and EffectsHYDROCARE originates from the acknowledgementof the strategic relevance of water for thelinked issues of economic development and environmentalprotection. The integrated approachof the project, based on the coupled analysis ofboth water resource and hydro-meteorogicalevents, derives from the appraisal of the suitabilityof transdisciplinary approaches to complex problems.HYDROCARE will develop an integrated systemcapable of assessing the impact of hydro-meteorologicalevents on water resources in the CADSESregion. Emphasis will be put on the developmentof effective transnational tools for a rational exploitationof water resources and the managementof the extreme hydro-meteorological eventsto preserve and enhance economic and environmentalwelfare. Such managing tools will be alsoillustrated in practical terms by performing severalcase studies. Other main topics of the project arethe reconstruction of the large and basin-scale hydrologicalcycle of the CADSES area to be achievedby suitably merging observations (both localand remote) and models, and the development ofa higher level ICT network within a transnationalframe to collect and exchange hydro-meteorologicaldata. Provision of relevant information to endusers such as farmers, entrepreneurs, public administrationsand agencies is also foreseen.Expected outcomes of HYDROCARE are:i Development of an integrated approach forwater resource management, directly bridgingthe evaluation of the quality and quantity ofthe water resources of the CADSES area withsoundly based tools to reconstruct and modelthe large and basin-scale hydrological cycle,i Establishment of effective, internationally sharedtools for public and private institutions forproper management of the water resources aswell as for planning future development in theCADSES area with special attention to the dynamicsof the costs of potable water,i Development of set of standards at Europeanlevel for the collection, evaluation, storage andinterpretation of the hydro-meteorological datacoming from different sources, with particularregard to extreme events of great potential impacton the welfare of the population and thestate of the environment,i Creation of a common and homogeneous databaseand development of a website with a bulletinupdated monthly, covering extreme hydrometeorologicalevents in the CADSES area.EU Regions/Member StatesNon EU Member StatesLead PartnerProject Partner0 200 kmLead PartnerNational Consortium of Universities for the Physics of Atmospheresand Hydrospheres, Unit of CamerinoVia Viviano Venanzi 1562032 CamerinoITALYContact PersonMr. Donato Di CamilloTel +39 0737 616803Fax +39 0737 616804E-Mail donato.dicamillo@unicam.itProject PartnersGermanyPotsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, PotsdamENVIRONMENTMEASURE 4.3HYDROCARE entails a set of quite different andcomplementary partners covering a large part ofthe CADSES area.
