CHAPTER 39INTERVIEW ROOMSThese standards apply to agencies that allow suspects, detainees, orprisoners to be secured in a room, space, or area for the purpose ofprocessing, questioning, or testing. Physical needs of suspects, detainees,or prisoners; physical conditions of the designated areas; and securitymeasures are addressed by this chapter. Agencies that maintaincontinuous supervision as defined in the glossary are exempt fromthese standards.39:1June 2012
Standard39.01 M If an agency allows suspects, detainees, orprisoners to be secured in a designated areawithout continuous supervision by agencypersonnel, a directive addresses the following:A. Authorization for the use of the room, space, orarea;B. Member accountability for thesuspects, detainees, or prisoners;C. Separation of female, male, andjuvenile prisoners/detainees;D. Authorized temporary restraintdevices, including, if allowed,securing to fixed objects designed forsuch use;E. Access to water, restrooms, andother needs;F. Training for agency membersidentified in bullet B; andG.
