3 - Water in the Mekong BasinRainfall generally peaks between April and August (Figure 2).The driest region within the basin is the Korat Plateau whereannual rainfall is mostly between 1,000 mm and 1,600 mm. TheNorthern and Eastern Highlands are the wettest regions withinthe basin with 2,000-2,800 and 2,000-3,000 mm respectively.
