They wereinstantly attacked and gallantly defended themselves, until the appearanceof very superior numbers induced them to betake themselvesto flight. The chief, with most of his adherents, escaped; but hisZempi lost his life in the affray, being transfixed with two arrows;oneentering his temple, the other his throat. His head and right handwere immediately cut off, and carried in triumph to Wandipore.
