35 8 TIBET.at the Lamii's hand, the valuable favour of a badge of thin crimsonsilk, over which various solemn incantations had been performed, andwhich was in future to secure for ever, my prosperity and success.Valuable as the present was, I fear I have unfortunately lost it. Inthe evening, I took a long farewell of all the officers of his court, andon the following day, departed for Bengal.I found the Soobah of Buxadewar absent from thatstation, havingtaken up his residence in the valley of Chichacotta, for the winterseason, where a temperature of weather prevailed, more mild and congenialeven to a Booteea's constitution, than the rude region of hisnative mountains. I passed a day with him, for I could not resist hispressing solicitations ; and on the next, I hastened to join the friendsI had left the preceding year, when I departed firom Bengal, who hadkindly advanced, and formed a camp upon Calamatty plain, tomeetme. We proceeded together the next day to Rungpore. I soon afterreceived orders from the Governor General to advance without delay,and join him at Patna, in the province of Bahar.there to meet him, and to be honoured with hisI had the satisfactionentire approbation ofmy conduct in the execution of thecommission, which he had beenpleased to confide to my charge.
