"The International Traffic in Girls," June 1886<br />

abduction of two young women to Chicago by a female, who intends to<br />

dispose of them for immoral purposes. The girls left by the Grand<br />

Trunk railway[A] on Monday night, and every attempt was made to<br />

arrest the woman within the Canadian line. The American consul has<br />

been consulted, and an important letter has been drafted for the British<br />

consul in Washington.<br />

It is stated that over fifty girls have been sent to one Chicago<br />

house within a year;" therefore your memorialists, the New York<br />

Committee for the Prevention of State Regulation of Vice, respect fully<br />

and earnestly ask that you will duly provide for, and cause to be made,<br />

a thorough official inquiry concerning this alleged international traffic in<br />

girls for immoral purposes, and take such action as may be found<br />

necessary to speedily and effectually abolish it.<br />
