Overview of sectionThe focus of the next section of the review (Chapters 3 – 6) is to identify andpresent a comprehensive report of the barriers and facilitators experienced bywomen with a disability (physical, sensory, mental health or intellectual) as theyaccess and use the maternity and healthcare services during pregnancy,childbirth and motherhood. Firstly, a definition of ‘access to services’ in thecontext of women with disabilities of all kinds is provided, thus setting the scenefor the presentation of a detailed exploration of facilitators and barriers toaccess of services in this and succeeding chapters.3.1.2. Overview of chapterChapter 3 presents the experiences of women with a physical disability. Initialsections of this chapter present the barriers to accessing services, as identifiedfrom 27 published research papers (Appendix 3, Table 2), in terms ofaccessibility, accommodation and acceptability of services. A final sectiondescribes facilitators to access, under each of these headings that were notedin 8 publications (Appendix 3, Table 3).50
