Overview of sectionThe focus of the next section of the review (Chapters 3 – 6) is <strong>to</strong> identify <strong>and</strong>present a comprehensive report of the barriers <strong>and</strong> facilita<strong>to</strong>rs experienced bywomen <strong>with</strong> a disability (physical, sensory, mental health or intellectual) as theyaccess <strong>and</strong> use the maternity <strong>and</strong> healthcare services during pregnancy,childbirth <strong>and</strong> motherhood. Firstly, a definition of ‘access <strong>to</strong> services’ in thecontext of women <strong>with</strong> disabilities of all kinds is provided, thus setting the scenefor the presentation of a detailed exploration of facilita<strong>to</strong>rs <strong>and</strong> barriers <strong>to</strong>access of services in this <strong>and</strong> succeeding chapters.3.1.2. Overview of chapterChapter 3 presents the experiences of women <strong>with</strong> a physical disability. Initialsections of this chapter present the barriers <strong>to</strong> accessing services, as identifiedfrom 27 published research papers (Appendix 3, Table 2), in terms ofaccessibility, accommodation <strong>and</strong> acceptability of services. A final sectiondescribes facilita<strong>to</strong>rs <strong>to</strong> access, under each of these headings that were notedin 8 publications (Appendix 3, Table 3).50
