Then to Mactavish's flatto see his books + taste pemmican + borrow his rifle + flowerbooks. Then to book shop for bird + flower books. Then to MrChristie in his <strong>of</strong>fice a fine old face.WJ. Christie 300 Paris BuildingsThen to an A I lunch at Fort Garry Hotel with Mr MactavishMr Christie + Lady Tupper. All dqy Mr M. talking<strong>of</strong>Hudson'sBqy +explorer's history his heart in it all + he is thrilled over our journry: a charmer.Mr C then motored us round Parliament Bldgs + parks a fewanimals confined a gopher wild + a palm house well kept. Left Winnipeg about 11.30.THURSDAY 27 MAYWoke up 6 to find ourselves in lovely fresh valley with rollingslopes + a river teeming with bird life + birds singing + a springfeeling in the air. Heaps <strong>of</strong> ducks. Ayellow lupin. All day theponds were teeming with ducks + waders unlike the waters <strong>of</strong>eastern Canada. Rolling plains + ridges + richer looking l<strong>and</strong>.Spring is here in the W strange contrast to the brownness bleakness+ snow <strong>of</strong> Quebec. Dull + thundery evening. Slept our 2nd night ontrain + to Edmonton at 6.50 AM Friday 28th May. To MacdonaldHotel very swagger 5 $ for double room. After breakfast toHudson's Bay Co. with our letter. A long chat with Mr Brabant+ then poked round Woolworth's + the H Co. Stores + fixed up to meet MrWarner. Lunched low haunt for 35 cents. Mr Warner came to see us atgo' c + we got several points cleared up (I) Our Indians walkback in 4 days from La Pierre House the road we track up in 9days.
