After lunch a party <strong>of</strong> us wentashore: delightful isl<strong>and</strong> easier walking no mosquitoes or veryfew hot scent <strong>of</strong> spruce fresh wind sunshine masses <strong>of</strong> littlepink Orchis. Walked all round in a couple <strong>of</strong> hours or so. Talked a bit withBishop Brenner R. C. who inspects missions in all this district. EMission + RC church + the usual store all on a peaceful river.Attractive place: an hour or two ashore + then after a 7 o'cbreakfast a dream journey through the Great Slave Lake toBeaver Lake: glassy sea clear sky myriads <strong>of</strong> ducks: thin greenline: great space. Iry cold wind w<strong>and</strong>ered round ducks seeking shelter + puton all our coats. Long talk with Gray Nun the Mother Superiorwho goes "out" to Montreal + keeps touch with the world.Bumped over some s<strong>and</strong> bars + so to Providence about 3 a 'c. Several falseattempts to l<strong>and</strong> in shallow water under the high bank where school childrenNuns priests + population were silhouetted also the church.Like a comic opera scene: Indian children <strong>of</strong> the mission boysin blue corduroy with large white ties girls in scarlet skirts whiteblouses + black boots.
