Sanford, retired Director of the Chapel Hill Training-Outreach Project for the initial concept and design of the Learning Ac<strong>com</strong>plishment Profile-Diagnostic (LAP-D). Research and development funding was provided by the Office of ChildDevelopment and the Bureau of Education for the Handicapped, Department of Health,Education and Welfare, 1975-1977. David Wilson LeMay, Patricia M. Griffin, and Anne R.Sanford, with the statistical advice of Sergio Maltes, were primarily responsible for the initialdevelopment, pilot studies, and revision process resulting in the final form published byKaplan Press in 1977. The Learning Ac<strong>com</strong>plishment Profile-Diagnostic Edition Examiner’s<strong>Manual</strong> (1977) provides the technical data related to the assessment’s initial developmentand pilot studies.LAP-D Second EditionKaplan Press in collaboration with Chapel Hill Training-Outreach Project initiated therevision and standardization of the LAP-D, in consultation with Aubrey Nehring and EmmaNehring who <strong>com</strong>pleted the final revisions and national standardization. John R. Bruni Jr.and Patricia L. Randolph of Western Kentucky University provided statistical consultationand guidance during the preparation of the <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>Report</strong> for the <strong>com</strong>pletedstandardization and norming study.LAP-D Third EditionThis report presents the guidelines and research results for the third edition of the LAP-D,both the English and Spanish versions. The report represents the culmination of efforts bymany people across the country. We especially want to thank the families and earlychildhood programs for their willingness to participate in the project. A list of theparticipating programs is located in the Appendix.
