Paint Examinations<br />
The layer structure <strong>of</strong> a quest oned pa nt sample<br />
can be compared w th a known source from a<br />
suspect. The sequence, relat ve th ckness, color,<br />
texture, number, and chem cal compos t on <strong>of</strong><br />
each <strong>of</strong> the layers can be compared.<br />
The color, manufacturer, model, and model year<br />
<strong>of</strong> an automob le may be determ ned from a pa nt<br />
ch p. Sourc ng automot ve pa nts s l m ted to<br />
factory-appl ed, or g nal automot ve pa nt.<br />
Pa nt on safes, vaults, w ndows lls, and door<br />
frames can be transferred to and from tools. A<br />
compar son can be made between the pa nt from<br />
an object and the pa nt on a tool.<br />
The Laboratory w ll not exam ne ev dence to<br />
authenticate fine art or historical artifacts or to<br />
source spray pa nt or arch tectural pa nts.<br />
