Ministry of Education Summary Report of Education Situation ,Year 1388 take the form back to school and fix the problem. After completion of all schools in each province, the forms were returned to MoE statistics department. The completed survey forms were validated by a team of statistics officers and surveyors in Kabul before the data was manually entered into the computer. In case of any inconsistencies the surveyors were called in to call up their provincial counterparts to verify the information. Data entry took two months and a total of 230 staff to complete. It was entered into a special database program developed by an EMIS department. A team of experts run and checks on the data entered to verify the veracity of the entries which was collected from the field. At the end of the data entry process, the EMIS department staff was required to verify a random number of pages of the data entered to check for errors. Finally, post data entry validation checks were run on all the information entered to reduce data entry errors. Based on the survey results, data was further analyzed by different entities. The tabulated data is presented in the appendix of this report. However, the followings consist of some of the summary data presented to illustrate the current situation upon which at the end of the analysis certain conclusions have been drawn. 3.1 Limitations Deteriorating security situation in a number of provinces did not allow surveyors to visit all the schools in the provinces. Since having a complete dataset of schools in Afghanistan was one of the primary aims of the survey, the headmasters from those schools not visited were brought into the provincial centers with the documents to fill the survey forms. Even this could not be done for many schools as headmasters in some of the most insecure districts were not comfortable travelling with these documents. For such schools a separate form was developed to obtain data based on the records of the schools maintained in the provincial education department and best estimates were derived. Ministry of Education Summary Report of Education Situation ,Year 1388 Ministry of Education 1 Data Presentation 1.1 Summary Data Trend Presentation in the Last Three Years: In 1386, there were 5,675,951 students in General Education. This number has increased to 6,504,715 students. From 1386 to 1387, this is an increase of 14.6% of which 13% are female students and 6% are male students; however, in 1388, the female enrolment has increased only by 7%. Gender Ratio is an important social indicator to measure the extent of prevailing equity between males and females at a given point of time. It is mainly the outcome of the interplay of gender differentials. It is usually measured as the number of males per 100 females. The gender ratio is 183 in 1386, 172 in 1387 and 168 in 1388. From1386 to 1388, the number of males has decreased from 183 to 168 per 100 female. There is an improvement in gender ratio. There were 9,062 schools in 1386; it has increased to 11,460 in 1388. In 1387, the number of schools increased by 13%, but in 1388, it has increased by 9% only.
