Ministry of Education Summary Report of Education Situation ,Year 1388 1.3 Students, Schools and Teachers by each Program 1.3.1 General Education 1.3.1.1 Students by Province, Grade and Gender There are in total, 6,504.715 students in General educations (GE), 62.75 % are male and 37.25% are female students. Graph 4 shows the GE by grades and genders. Grade 1 has highest female enrolled than in other Grades. The gender ratio shows grade 1 to grade 3 does not have much decrease in female enrolment, and female enrolment decreases as the grade increases (Graph 5). The highest numbers of students are found in Kabul City, around eight hundred thousands, followed by six hundred thousand in Herat province and 5 hundred thousand in Nangarhar. Ministry of Education Summary Report of Education Situation ,Year 1388 1.3.1.2 Student Attendance: absent from exam and failed student The figures on attendance represents the number of students present in or absent from the class at the day of filling the data collection cycle forms. Permanently absent represent those students who registered but do not attend school. These students’ names of permanently absent (PAS) are kept in the school registers for three consecutive years and new permanently absent students are accumulated. Once PAS complete the three years period, their names are removed from the register. Graph 8 below shows students that are present and permanently absent. Ministry of Education needs to work out a strategy for the reintegration of these permanently absent students. The Ministry has to know the reasons behind these permanently absent. The reasons could be lack of security, illness, economic reasons, marriage, displacement, disapproval of continued education, bad education environment and many others categories. Once reasons and problems are identified, there is a need to concentrate on the resolution of these problems and facilitate a process of re-entry of the students into the education system. Again among total 6,504.715 students, 5,869,772 students are registered for the exam, 72% passed, 5% failed and 23% are absent.
