Ministry of Education Summary Report of Education Situation ,Year 1388 1.2.2 All Schools and Students by Urban and Rural Area: There are 12,081 schools, of which 82% are in rural area and 17% are in urban. GE and IE schools have more schools in rural areas, 83%, and 67%, respectively. They cover almost 65% of the students from rural areas. TTC and TVET schools are concentrated mostly (71%) in urban areas. Total School s Total Urban School s 1.2.3 School surrounding wall information: Surrounding walls are preferred for all schools in Afghanistan, to provide safety and child friendly spaces for recreation and sport. Of the total 12,081 schools, 68% of schools do not have surrounding walls and 15% require rehabilitation of their boundary walls. Most GE schools do not have surrounding walls, which constitutes 64% of the schools. Lack of bounder walls have negative effects on girls’ enrollment, attendance and completion, because a boundary wall allows schools to adhere to cultural norms for the protection of girls. More than 93% of them are operational in GE and IE schools. This figure has decreased in TTC and TVET schools, which is only 71% and 65%, respectively. The collection of data in regards to toilets is important since toilets are the necessities students could not do without. Furthermore, the information about the conditions of toilets is essential to inquire about the usability of the facilities. Lack of proper toilets facilities deprives students of the proper learning environment since their essential needs would not be met.
