138 9. Concluding remarks and outlookis to adopt a non-equilibrium thermodynamical model (Cahn-Hilliard models [150] ordiffusive interface models [151]) and to include the description of multi-components andchemical reactions. With a proper free energy expression the effect of solubility of TMOSboth in oil and water can be modeled, and thus also the partitioning behavior of TMOS.Such a model could be used both for bulk systems as for pore-scale models. As noted in Section 9.3 a reservoir model could be used to simulate the gel placementand flow profiles (after treatment) on the the scale of a reservoir. This would answer thequestion for which situation (i.e. reservoir structure, water breakthrough scenario, etc.)the gel treatment works best, and also how the procedure could be optimized.
