answer<strong>in</strong>g relevant and 55.6% from NSA, very relevant;<br />
Week regional transport <strong>in</strong>frastructure, considered less relevant for<br />
Bus<strong>in</strong>ess (about 33%) while for NSA, is very relevant with 55.6%;<br />
and<br />
High transport costs, with 40.9% stat<strong>in</strong>g very relevant for Bus<strong>in</strong>ess<br />
and 50.0% stat<strong>in</strong>g very relevant for NSA (Table 43).<br />
Therefore, the 18 respondents from Bus<strong>in</strong>ess and 9 from NSA<br />
considered corruption of officials, customs tariffs currently employed,<br />
poor regional communication <strong>in</strong>frastructure, sanitary and phytosanitary<br />
regulations as the most relevant barriers to trade <strong>in</strong><br />
Mozambique.<br />
The Bus<strong>in</strong>ess and NSA also considered as the second most relevant<br />
barriers to trade <strong>in</strong> Mozambique the time-consum<strong>in</strong>g customs<br />
procedures and as the third most relevant barriers the substantial<br />
paper work, bureaucracy, high transport costs and corruption of officials<br />
(Table 44).<br />
Impact of Regional <strong>Integration</strong> on Companies<br />
Regard<strong>in</strong>g the rise and decl<strong>in</strong>e of employment as a result of regional<br />
<strong>in</strong>tegration both Bus<strong>in</strong>ess and NSA consider them, on one hand likely<br />
and, on the other unlikely. Bus<strong>in</strong>ess and NSA consider that employment<br />
will decl<strong>in</strong>e by 25% and 44.4%, respectively.<br />
48.4% from Bus<strong>in</strong>ess and 88.9% from NSA said regional <strong>in</strong>tegration<br />
will <strong>in</strong>crease domestic production. As for <strong>in</strong>vestment abroad, 40%<br />
from Bus<strong>in</strong>ess said that was unlikely while 40% from NSA stated it<br />
was likely to occur. Referr<strong>in</strong>g to a high probability of closure of the<br />
country's production, 60% from NSA considered it likely to happen,<br />
while 35.5% from Bus<strong>in</strong>ess considered this unlikely. Foresee<strong>in</strong>g the<br />
formation of jo<strong>in</strong>t-ventures with companies from other countries, as<br />
well as of emergence of new activities, 61.3% from Bus<strong>in</strong>ess and<br />
88.9% from NSA stated that these will, probably occur. 67.7% of<br />
Bus<strong>in</strong>ess and the totality of respondents from NSA th<strong>in</strong>k new activities<br />
will probably emerge as a result of regional <strong>in</strong>tegration.<br />
