Total and PermanentDisability (TPD) andLoss of IndependenceinsuranceHow does a claim affect your insurance?If you have TPD and Loss of Independence insuranceas part of your <strong>Life</strong> <strong>Cover</strong> or as a Connected Benefit:• your <strong>Life</strong> <strong>Cover</strong> insurance will be reduced by the claimamount paid for TPD or Loss of Independence and, ifapplicable, your Terminal Illness Support insurance willalso be reduced to the lesser of 50% of the reduced<strong>Life</strong> <strong>Cover</strong> insurance or $250,000• when <strong>MLC</strong> pays some or all of your <strong>Life</strong> <strong>Cover</strong> insurancefor Terminal Illness or Accidental Injury, your TPD andLoss of Independence insurance will be reduced by theclaim amount paid.<strong>MLC</strong> will reduce your future premiums in line with thereduced insurance.If you have stand-alone TPD and Loss ofIndependence insurance:• your <strong>Life</strong> <strong>Cover</strong> and Terminal Illness Support insurancewill not be reduced by the claim amount paid for TPD orLoss of Independence• your TPD and Loss of Independence insurance will notbe reduced by any claim paid under your <strong>Life</strong> <strong>Cover</strong>insurance, including claims paid for Terminal Illness orAccidental Injury.When won’t <strong>MLC</strong> pay?TPD and Loss ofIndependence(includingstand-alone)Stand-aloneTPD and Loss ofIndependence<strong>MLC</strong> will not pay:a benefit for any total and permanentdisablement or loss of independencearising from or contributed to by:• intentional self-inflicted injury orattempted suicide• any injury that occurred, or sicknessthat first appeared, before the policycommenced or was last reinstated(unless disclosed to, and accepted by,<strong>MLC</strong> as part of the application orreinstatement process).the death benefit of $5,000 if you commitsuicide within 13 months after thisinsurance began or was last reinstated.When does TPD andLoss of Independence insurance end?Your insurance will end when:• the insurance is cancelled at your written request(cover ceases on the next paid-to date and <strong>MLC</strong> will notrefund any premium paid up to then)• the insurance is cancelled because you stoppaying premiums• the policy is cancelled because you make afraudulent claim• <strong>MLC</strong> pays your full TPD or Loss of Independence benefit• <strong>MLC</strong> pays your full TPD or Loss of Independencebenefit and/or Critical Illness benefit, if they were part ofor connected to <strong>Life</strong> <strong>Cover</strong> and the benefit paid equalsthe <strong>Life</strong> <strong>Cover</strong> insurance• <strong>MLC</strong> pays your full <strong>Life</strong> <strong>Cover</strong> benefit or your <strong>Life</strong> <strong>Cover</strong>insurance ends, if your TPD and Loss of Independenceinsurance is part of or connected to <strong>Life</strong> <strong>Cover</strong>• for LCS, the policy is converted to non-superannuationinsurance (insurance will continue as detailed onpage 64)• you reach the expiry age for your type of insurance andpremium structure• you reach the termination date shown on your Schedule• you die.Expiry ages:• cover for level premium ceases on the next review dateafter you turn 65• 75 for stepped premium or decreasing cover in LCS• cover for stepped premium or decreasing cover in PPPceases on the next review date after you turn 100.Page 16 <strong>MLC</strong> <strong>Life</strong> <strong>Cover</strong> <strong>Super</strong> and <strong>MLC</strong> <strong>Personal</strong> <strong>Protection</strong> <strong>Portfolio</strong> PDS
