Home assistanceIf <strong>MLC</strong> is paying you Total Disability benefits under Income<strong>Protection</strong> insurance and you are at home, confined tobed or the house, and dependent on home assistance ornursing care, <strong>MLC</strong> will pay you a further benefit to helpcover this care.The benefit for home assistance is the daily proportion ofyour monthly benefit if your spouse stops working full-timeto care for you at home, unless your spouse worked foryou or your employer before your disability. The benefit fornursing care is $85 per day for a hired private registerednurse who is not a member of your immediate family.The maximum benefit is the lesser of your monthly benefitor $2,500 per month, for up to six months.Transportation benefitIf you become totally disabled for at least one month whileyou are:• outside Australia, <strong>MLC</strong> will reimburse the cost oftransportation back to Australia• inside Australia, more than 100 kilometres from home,<strong>MLC</strong> will reimburse the cost of transportation back toyour home.<strong>MLC</strong> will only pay this benefit once in any 12 calendarmonthperiod, after deducting any reimbursements youare entitled to receive from other sources, and the most<strong>MLC</strong> will pay is an amount equivalent to three times yourmonthly benefit.Occupational HIV, Hepatitis B or C Lump SumBenefit (for certain occupations only underPPP Plus)This option is only available for Income <strong>Protection</strong> Plus forcertain medical occupations (such as doctors, surgeons,dentists, nurses and ambulance officers) if you alsochoose the Extra Benefits Option. <strong>MLC</strong> or your financialadviser can tell you if you are eligible.<strong>MLC</strong> will pay you a lump sum if, while the policy is in force,you acquire HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus),Hepatitis B or Hepatitis C as a result of an occupationalaccident while you are performing the normal duties ofyour occupation in the health industry.The minimum benefit you can select is $25,000 and themaximum benefit you can select is 100 times yourmonthly benefit to a maximum of $500,000.You (or someone representing you) must tell <strong>MLC</strong> you maybecome infected within 14 days of the incident or that youhave become infected within 14 days of diagnosis. <strong>MLC</strong>will send a claim form and/or instructions for submittingproof of benefit entitlement.Documented proof must be provided by you to <strong>MLC</strong> that:• the incident did happen at work and involved a definitesource of infection, including copies of the incidentreport, the names of the witnesses to the incident andconfirmation of the source of infection• the HIV, Hepatitis B or Hepatitis C is a new infection andthat seroconversion from the relevant negativeantibodies or antigens to positive antibodies or antigenshas taken place within six months of the incident, basedupon blood or body fluid samples tested by AustralianGovernment approved pathology laboratories.<strong>MLC</strong> must be allowed to independently retest the samplesand/or take further samples for testing at <strong>MLC</strong>’s cost.<strong>MLC</strong> will not pay benefits for any Hepatitis B infectioncommencing within six months after this insurance beganor was last reinstated.<strong>MLC</strong> will not pay for any HIV, Hepatitis B or C infection:• arising from intentionally self-inflicted infection• first diagnosed after you die• commencing after the appropriate government bodyhas recommended a preventative vaccine for use inyour occupation, but you have not taken this vaccine• commencing after the appropriate government bodyhas approved a treatment which makes infectioninactive and non-infectious• occurring, or sickness first appearing, before the policycommenced or was last reinstated (unless disclosed to,and accepted by, <strong>MLC</strong> as part of the application orreinstatement process).<strong>MLC</strong> will continue your Occupational HIV, Hepatitis B or Cinfection lump sum insurance until the benefit is paid oryour Income <strong>Protection</strong> Plus insurance ends.The types of insurance offered<strong>MLC</strong> <strong>Life</strong> <strong>Cover</strong> <strong>Super</strong> and <strong>MLC</strong> <strong>Personal</strong> <strong>Protection</strong> <strong>Portfolio</strong> PDS Page 35
