Income<strong>Protection</strong>insuranceThe maximum period of time <strong>MLC</strong> will pay Partial Disabilityor Rehabilitation benefits depends on the Income<strong>Protection</strong> insurance you choose.LCS andPPP StandardLCS andPPP Plus<strong>MLC</strong> will pay Partial Disability orRehabilitation benefits for up to amaximum of six months. If you are paidless than the full monthly benefit over thesix months, <strong>MLC</strong> will extend the benefitperiod while your partial disability orrehabilitation continues until the benefitpaid equals six times the fullmonthly benefit.<strong>MLC</strong> will pay Partial Disability orRehabilitation benefits up to the end ofthe benefit period.<strong>MLC</strong> will pay benefits for total and partial disability andrehabilitation only while a doctor is regularly treating you.<strong>MLC</strong> will review the benefit regularly and may requirefurther proof of continued disability.The Partial Disability or Rehabilitation benefit iscalculated as follows:Professional, Clerical and General, andSpecial Risk Occupations insured underLCS and PPP, Standard and Plus:The Partial Disability or Rehabilitation benefit is calculated inproportion to your reduction in earnings.Farmers insured under the Farmers Package (Plus):The Partial Disability or Rehabilitation benefit is calculated as50% of your monthly benefit for up to two years of partialdisability or rehabilitation.Then, beyond two years, if you have a five year benefit period,50% of your monthly benefit or a part of the monthly benefit inproportion to your level of whole person impairment,whichever is less.Whole person impairment is based on medical advice thatmay include regular occupational or medical assessment by amedical adviser appointed by <strong>MLC</strong>, which may be requestedat any time. It will be required following two years of partialdisability or rehabilitation and every six months thereafterwhile partial disability or rehabilitation continues or until theend of the benefit period, whichever is earlier. Thisassessment is in addition to any other information orexamination required to assess the claim. No benefit will bepayable for any period of partial disability or rehabilitation withan assessed whole person impairment of less than 25%.One benefit paid at a time<strong>MLC</strong> only pays one benefit at a time except for the:• rehabilitation expense benefit under PPP Standard• rehabilitation expense benefit and rehabilitation bonusunder PPP Plus• double benefits for specified conditions, homeassistance benefit, transportation benefit andaccommodation benefit under the Extra Benefits Optionunder PPP Plus.When do the benefits end?Any benefit you are paid under Total Disability, PartialDisability or Rehabilitation ends if any of these occur:• you cease to be totally disabled, partially disabled or inrehabilitation (as applicable)• your maximum benefit period ends• your Income <strong>Protection</strong> insurance ends.If you die while receiving a benefit we’ll pay an additionalsix months benefit as a lump sum, to a maximum of$60,000.For LCS, the Trustee will not be able to release theIncome <strong>Protection</strong> benefit to you unless you satisfythe criteria for temporary incapacity in thesuperannuation legislation.
