Performing Breast and Pelvic Examinations• Separate the labia majora with two fingers and look at the labiaminora, clitoris, urethral opening and vaginal opening (Figure G-12).• Palpate the labia minora between the thumb and second finger.• Look for redness (inflammation) discharge, tenderness, ulcers orblisters.• Feel for irregularities or lumps (nodules).• Check for discharge and tenderness of the Skene’s glands and urethra(Figure G-13).• Do this on each side of the urethra and then directly under theurethra.• If a discharge is present, take a smear for Gram’s stain and testsfor gonorrhea and chlamydia (if laboratory facilities areavailable).Figure G-13.
