Performing Breast and Pelvic ExaminationsLEARNING GUIDE FOR BREAST EXAMINATIONSSTEP/TASK11. Have the woman sit up and raise her arm to shoulder level. Palpate the tail ofthe breast by pressing along the outside edge of the left pectoral muscle whilegradually moving your fingers up into the axilla. Check for enlarged lymphnodes or tenderness.12. Repeat this step for the right side.13. After completing the examination, have the woman cover herself. Explain anyabnormal findings and what needs to be done. If the examination is normal,tell the woman everything is normal and healthy and when she should returnfor a repeat examination.14.
