fishing capacity by 30%-40% (around 200 vessels). The investment will be mainly
aimed at modernisation of fishing vessels, including improvement of safety in
fishing vessels and the sanitary situation as well as protection and development of
water resources, construction of harbour infrastructure and support for the state-ofthe-art
fish market.
Fisheries in Poland comply with EU legislation. Most of the harmonisation
provisions were introduced based on the Law of 6 September 2001 on sea fishing.
Furthermore, legal framework for the organisation of the fish market in
conformity with EU regulations was provided in the Law of 10 October 2002 on
organisation of the market in fish and amending the Law on sea fishing, replaced
subsequently by the Law on organisation of the market in fish and financial aid for
fisheries of 22 January 2004.
These laws along with the regulations introduced provisions on market
standards, keeping the register of operators buying in fishery products, issuing by
such operators the sales document upon placing fishery products on the market and
receipt declarations upon storage thereof. The legislation in question lays down the
rules for the setting up and functioning of fish producer organisations as well as
inter-branch organisations and types of intervention measures taken by producer
organisations on the fish market and rules for granting state aid to such
organisations.
