<strong>Sepulveda</strong> <strong>Dam</strong> <strong>Basin</strong><strong>Master</strong> <strong>Plan</strong> and Environmental AssessmentModel Airplane Field islocated northwest of theconfluence of WoodleyCreek and the <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong>River. The field occupiesapproximately 15 acres andincludes an open gradedfield for radio controlled andtethered model airplanes.The field has a parking lotand restroom amenities. Thefield was developed by theCity. The restrooms weredeveloped jointly by theCorps and the City.<strong>Sepulveda</strong> <strong>Basin</strong> Wildlife Area The wildlife area covers an area of 130 acres and is located in thenortheastern portion of the <strong>Basin</strong>, bounded by Burbank Boulevard on the south, WoodleyAvenue on the west, Woodley Park on the north, and the <strong>Sepulveda</strong> <strong>Dam</strong> Embankment to theeast. The wildlife area features a 12- acre wildlife lake with a .75- acre bird-refuge island. Wateris supplied to the wildlife lake by the Donald C. Tillman Water Reclamation <strong>Plan</strong>t. Nativeannuals, shrubs, and trees have been planted throughout the area. The area also has aneducational staging area and amphitheatre, pathways with signage and viewing areas, HaskellCreek has been reconfigured and re-vegetated, with pedestrian bridges crossing the creek. Workon the wildlife area began in 1979 with the establishment of a 48 acre riparian area. Over theyears, the refuge has been improved and expanded, with the last major expansion in 1998 by theCorps and the City.Hjelte Sports Center is an approximately 12-acre facility located in the southern portion of the<strong>Basin</strong> between Burbank Boulevard and Encino Creek to the north and the <strong>Dam</strong> embankment tothe south. The complex has four lighted baseball fields, bleachers at each field, restroomamenities, a concession stand, and a storage facility. It was developed jointly by the City and theCorps.<strong>Sepulveda</strong> Garden Center The garden center is approximately 12-acres located south of U.SRoute 101, west of Hayvenhurst Avenue, and north of Magnolia Boulevard. The garden centerprovides 800 garden plots for local citizens to grow fruits, vegetables, flowers, and herbs. Eachplot is 10 feet wide by 20 feet wide. A fee is charged for use of the garden plots. Additionalamenities include public telephones, first aid supplies, and restrooms. A greenhouse is availablefor gardeners for germinating of seeds for transplanting. The <strong>Sepulveda</strong> Garden Center wasdeveloped by the City.Land Allocation, Existing Land Use Classification, and Resource Inventory and Analysis 4-10
